SPRING into Maths is a structured intervention for students who require extra support with mathematics, specifically the concepts related to number. Number focuses on the study of numerical concepts such as those that represent quantities, estimating, and measuring.

SPRING into Maths kits are designed to be used flexibly. This allows you to move between kits to support or extend your learners.

SPRING into Maths has been developed by NZCER maths facilitator and researcher Julie Roberts and designed to be delivered to small groups of students by teachers or teacher aides.

Why use SPRING into Maths?

SPRING into Maths is characterised by short, fun lessons delivered using a clear, systematic and repetitive structure. It is responsive to the needs of learners and can easily be adapted. In a short period of time, students become more engaged in mathematical learning, grow in confidence, and begin to believe in themselves as mathematicians. The gains in both achievement and disposition are sustained after students complete SPRING into Maths.

The six components help students construct the knowledge and computation approaches to solve mathematics problems. The games provide a fun way for students to apply their learning and for teachers and teacher aides to check that these are secure, and students are ready to move on.
